With an estimated investment of USD 16 billion, the H2 Magallanes Project, led by TotalEnergies H2, has taken a key step forward by submitting its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and officially entering the Environmental Impact Assessment System (SEIA).
Located in the commune of San Gregorio, the project aims to produce green ammonia from renewable hydrogen (green H2), primarily for export. It will be developed on a 72,000-hectare ranch, of which approximately 4,000 hectares will be used for key infrastructure: wind turbines, electrolysis plants, production and storage units, electrical infrastructure, and a port terminal with a desalination plant.
Beyond its energy scale, H2 Magallanes stands out for its commitment to the local environment, having conducted more than 20 scientific studies and an Early Citizen Participation (ECP) process. These efforts have led to the creation of a Social Investment Plan focused on local employment, regional suppliers, sustainability, and culture.
With a projected lifespan of 25 years, the project is expected to generate up to 10,000 jobs during construction and produce 1.9 million tons of green ammonia per year.
This milestone marks the beginning of a new phase in the journey toward a cleaner, more sustainable energy matrix, positioning Magallanes as a key player in the global energy transition.
