Sixth-grade students from Punta Delgada School experienced an unforgettable day alongside veterinarian Cristofer de la Rivera, who led a birdwatching class in the municipality of San Gregorio.
The activity began in the classroom, where the specialist introduced characteristic local species and shared valuable information about their behavior, habitats, and the important role they play in the local ecosystem.
Later, with binoculars in hand and accompanied by their teachers, the students went out into the field to closely observe Chilean swallows, sparrows, rufous-collared sparrows (chincol), common gallinules, kelp gulls, meadowlarks, and southern lapwings. Through this experience, they learned how these birds coexist in their environment and why it is essential to protect them.
This initiative is part of the research work carried out prior to the School Science Fair, which for the fourth consecutive year has been jointly organized by TE H2 and Punta Delgada School, reinforcing experiential learning and strengthening the school community’s connection with nature.
A meaningful experience that enhances knowledge of San Gregorio’s natural heritage and promotes environmental stewardship through education.
