We closed the year with the 4th Punta Delgada School Science Fair, an initiative that highlighted learning, curiosity, and students’ connection with their local territory.

In this edition, 24 students from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade presented research projects and creative works focused on the cultural and natural heritage of the Municipality of San Gregorio, addressing themes related to local identity, history, and the natural environment.

During the Fair, students showcased a range of creative and educational proposals. Some classes developed a community calendar featuring key points of interest, integrating cultural and natural landmarks, while others produced replicas of local bird species based on field-based avifauna studies.

A playful and participatory component was also incorporated, where students designed a memory-style educational game (matching game) using images collected during field trips, enabling visitors to learn about and recognize local heritage in a dynamic and engaging way.

Prior to the Fair, several classes received support from specialized professionals. Veterinarian Cristofer de la Rivera delivered a birdwatching and avifauna observation workshop, while Francisco Sánchez, historian and Head of Public Relations of the Punta Arenas Maritime Authority, led a guided educational visit to Faro Posesión and the remains of the steamship Olympian.

These activities supported students’ research processes in avifauna studies and the documentation of historical remains, strengthening meaningful learning and collaborative work.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Science Fair proved to be a valuable educational experience, promoting school-based research, territorial knowledge, and the commitment of the educational community to the heritage of San Gregorio.
